Copywriter, £27k-£30k p/a

Here at Human Appeal we have an exciting opportunity for a Copywriter to join our team based in Cheadle, Greater Manchester. You will join us on a full-time basis as part of an initial 1-year fixed term contract with a view to progressing into a permanent role. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £27k-£30k per annum.

Human Appeal is a faith-based charity that aims to abolish poverty by providing humanitarian aid, sustainable development programs and championing advocacy for our beneficiaries worldwide.

As a Copywriter, the successful candidate will be working closely with the Senior Graphic Designer, creative director, designers and other members of the Communications Department to ensure that material is clear, consistent, complete and credible, and that text is well written, grammatically correct and accessible. To collaborate, conceptualise and craft campaign ideas from concept to completion, taking both a conceptual and strategic approach to a wide variety of projects from global fundraising campaigns to internal campaigns, from storyboards to social media, from tone of voice to video scripts. All with a view to ultimately increasing awareness, understanding, donations, engagement and retention with Human Appeal amongst our key target audiences and stakeholders. We are ideally looking to appoint somebody immediately to this role.

Key duties and responsibilities of the Copywriter:

  • To take stakeholder feedback and be able to efficiently take on amends and rewrites, offering the same level of care and attention with every version.
  • To continually work within given time-frames and ensure work is delivered in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring adherence with our brand style guide at all times
  • Maintaining best practice for print, web, email and mobile communications, including adhering with accessibility guidelines.
  • Clearly understanding the content strategy for Human Appeal and contributing towards the overarching goal delivery.
  • To deliver at least x1 new creative content type for each major campaign in 2022 – Ramadan, Qurbani and Winter.
  • Lead on creative ideas, headlines and copy for campaigns, events and challenges. Also required to write scripts for videos, adverts and documentaries etc. 

What we’re looking for in our Copywriter:

  • Graduate – ideally in English, journalism, marketing or any other relevant field.
  • Minimum of 3+ year’s professional copywriting experience in an agency environment or in house across different categories and channels.
  • Experience working on or developing creative strategies that meet business needs through a clear understanding of brand, customer and brief objectives.
  • Confident presenting and communicating clearly to our team and internal stakeholders. 
  • Disciplined, with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Demonstrable understanding of copywriting best practices.
  • Creativity, enthusiasm, curiosity and a desire to improve.
  • Campaign driven copywriting. 
  • The ability to imagine, identify and nurture fresh ideas that compel and convert.
  • A good Commercial understanding, with awareness of how content is more than words on a page.
  • A track record of developing marketing copy from conception, to delivery, to impact.
  • Demonstrate a genuine passion for writing, with a creative portfolio bursting with new ideas.
  • A love for brand storytelling and tone of voice development.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to create innovative work.
